Pocket Pets

In this lab students will learn the functions of the organelles by reading their pocket pet cards. You can then test their knowledge with a game of Cell Organelle Bingo.

Print off the BINGO card set for your class. A great way to keep the cards is to put them in clear plastic sleeves. Students can keep track of their BINGO game with a dry erase marker.

(No Movie. Just play bingo)

Can you tell who I am?

You can quiz your class on the organelles by simply pointing to a character.  Can your class remember the names of these organelles and what they do?

Don't look at these answers until you take the picture quiz

These picture correlate to the journal article on organelles.

1 - Chromosome

2- Centriole (Looks like a piece of liquorish or a churro)

3- Mitochondria

4- Golgi (Looks like a stack of pancakes)

5- Vacuole (Bubble of protein oozing out of the Golgi)

6- Ribosome (Little dots)

7- Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (Skin that the ribosome attaches to)

8- Rough ER again (Zoomed out a little)

9- Nucleus/Nuclear Membrane

10- Nucleolus (It's inside the nucleus and holds the chromosomes)

11- Lysosome (Always the darkest organelle because it turns black with an acid stain)

12- Chloroplast (This shows the structures inside a chloroplast.  Not just your typical green dot.  it is much more interesting and complex)
