El Nino Ocean Temperature

"This is why science is fun."

Student - 5th grade.

Your class will learn of the dramatic changes that come to our ocean temperatures because of El Nino.  An in-class movie showing a mass migration of Tuna Crabs washing up on the shores of California's coastline. Your students will get to experiment mixing warm and cold water to duplicate the dynamic wind and ocean current conditions that cause this cyclic weather phenomenon. Your class will gain an understanding of the mechanics of how El Nino actually works after getting their hands on this memorable lab activity.

NGSS aligned.

Explore how the geosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere interact to form the El Nino weather events. (Earth Science 5-ESS2-1) Develop a model using an example to describe ways the geosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and/or atmosphere interact.
